Mapo Tapo: All you need to know for hiking ⛰️ Mount Olympus + 🧗 rock-climbing in Greece 🇬🇷

Have you have been on top of Mount Olympus? ππ¬π·
Mount Olympus boasts 52 peaks π€―, deep gorges, and a main plateau around 2700 meters high. The three primary peaks are Mytikas (West Peak, the highest), Skolio (Middle Peak), and Stefani (East Peak).
Weather you are a seasoned climber π§ββοΈ or a hiker π₯Ύ, you can have the chance to summit one of the peaks Mount Olympus peaks. Check below which is the best route for you. π
π₯Ύ Most accessible route to the summit:
Start from Prionia parking area and hike to the Spilios Agapitos mountain hut (3h).
Next day hike to Skala Peak (2,882m) and Skolio Peak (2,911m) without technical difficulties.
The next section, from Skala Peak to Mytikas Peak (2,918m) involves a YDS Class III rock scramble. That is why, for those not confident with scrambling, following a narrow ridge line to Skolio Peak might be the preferred objective.
π§ββοΈ More challenging alternative routes:
Olympus/Blue Glacier (2,429 meters / 7,965 ft) - This challenging 71-kilometer (44-mile) round trip includes a climb of 2,256 meters (7,400 feet) in elevation. It's classified as a Basic Glacier Climb
Mount Olympus Traverse - This 72-kilometer (45-mile) journey features a 2,469 meters (8,100 feet) elevation gain. It's also rated as a Basic Glacier Climb.
The Three Peaks Challenge: Climb the highest points of the mountain of the Gods in one day - This Challenge is a demanding adventure for mountaineers who wish to summit the three highest peaks of the mountain in a single push. These peaks are Mytikas, Skolio, and Stefani, which are also known as the throne of Zeus.

Destination highlights β¨ Has Greece π¬π· the best rock climbing π§ββοΈ worldwide?
π Kalymnos: The island offers top-notch rock climbingsuitable for climbers at all levels β¨. However, before traveling here, make sure to be comfortable with steep terrains. Most of the climbing here involves tufas and chunky rock formations that can be very polished from time to time. Popularity has its price. π€·
π Leonidio: This is a new climbing gem π, growing rapidly in the last years. There are already over 2500 routes and an annual climbing festival. The climbs here suit every climbing level and offer a fun mix of tufas, pockets, steeps, and slabs with mostly short approaches π₯°. Come here for a true Greek experience. π¬π·
πΌ Meteora: The rock formations in Meteora are unlike anywhere else in Greece or Europe. Here you can find more than 170 vertical rock towers where the climbing is mostly multi-pitches with long run-outs between then bolts π±. However, there is still plenty of opportunities for all climbers, being half of the routes graded up to 6b+. Bonus β¨: James Bond (For Your Eyes Only, 1981) also climbed the rock towers in Meteora ππ
βοΈ Crete: This is the off-the-beaten-track spot πΎ you don't expect. The climbing spots are spread out across the island and offer quite an adventure. There is sport-climbing, multi-pitches and trad climbing. The mild weather allows for climbing all year around π. Moreover, Crete has a lot of potential for other outdoor activities such as hiking, cliff diving and visiting beaches.
