Peak Powder: January and February offer the deepest snow and clearest skies

 

🏔 Terrain & Ski Levels

Altitude: 1,800–2,500 meters

Difficulty: Gentle alpine meadows for beginners, while experienced skiers can tackle steeper slopes and longer descents

 

🏠 Accommodation

Stay in traditional mountain huts or lodges (€20–€80 per night), many of which are ski-in/ski-out

Expect cozy wood-burning stoves, hearty meals, and warm Georgian hospitality

 

🌨 Weather & Conditions

Average Snow Depth: 1–2 meters

Temperature: Ranges from -5°C to -15°C in winter

Visibility: Watch for Bakhmaro's iconic clouds caused by thermal inversions—spectacular to see but plan routes carefully in low visibility

🎿 Skis & Avalanche Safety Gear: 

• Fat Powder Skis: Waist width of 110–120mm or more. The elevation gain per run is moderate (400 to 900 meters), so fat skis will be advantageous in deep snow

• Avalanche beacon (with fresh batteries. Never go below 75% 🫡)

• Probe (minimum 240 cm)

👕 Clothing:

• Outerwear: Waterproof and breathable ski jacket and pants (Gore-Tex recommended).
• Base Layers: Moisture-wicking top and bottom.
• Mid Layers: Insulating fleece or down jacket.
• Gloves: Insulated ski gloves

 

🧭 Safety and navigation:

• Download weather apps (Windy or Meteoblue).
• Consult local guides (by the way all our trips are run by local certified guides 😉).
  
  

🤓 Miscellaneous: 

• Sunglasses: UV-protective for sunny ascents. At least cat-3 lenses. 😎
• Sun Protection: Sunscreen (SPF 50+).
• Thermos: For warm drinks during breaks.
• Energy bars and snacks: advisable to bring from home as the availability in such remote areas can be limited.
