๐ What was the most breathtaking moment of the trip for you, and how would you describe the Dolomites to someone who has never been? |
"The most breathtaking moment of the trip was reaching the waterfall at the top of the Rabbi Valley. ๐คฉ๐ณ It was one of the longer journeys of our week so it felt like a big beautiful reward to reach the top of the valley and see one of the most beautiful waterfalls of my life!
Trentino is a beautiful area with so many valleys and mountains that all have distinct personalities. There are countless different animals, plants and views to admire. ๐ฑ๐ฆ I have never seen a landscape similar to this in the UK so it was definitely worth flying there to visit for this experience.๐"
๐ The Rabbi Valley is part of the Stelvio National ParkโItalyโs largest nature reserve! Itโs home to marmots, golden eagles, and even alpine ibexes. ๐ฆ The Dolomites themselves are over 250 million years old and were once underwater! ๐คฏ
๐ The word โDolomitesโ comes from the French geologist Dรฉodat Gratet de Dolomieu, who first studied the regionโs unique pale rock.
|
๐ช What was one challenge you faced during the adventure, and how did you overcome it? Would you have done anything differently in preparation? |
"The biggest challenge of this adventure was the steepness of the hills! ๐ฌThe Dolomites have famously steep mountains. We overcame this by working as a team to keep a good pace and a happy atmosphere with jokes, flasks of tea, and great snacks. ๐ต๐
I did not actively prepare for this trip, and I did not need to do any planning because our guide had a brilliant itinerary laid out. The only thing that would really make a difference would be to train some fitness. This trip is suitable for beginners, but as with any physical activity, the fitter you are the easier it will be!" ๐ช
โก๏ธ Some Dolomite trails have an incline of over 30%, making them perfect training for more intense alpine adventures. But donโt worryโTrentino has over 5,800 km of marked trails for all skill levels! ๐โโ๏ธ
๐คซ Pro tip: Stop for a merenda (snack break)โmany trailside huts offer fresh strudel, polenta, or speck sandwiches! ๐ฐ

๐ฅพ Whatโs one piece of gear you couldnโt have done without? |
"I could not have done this trip without my camera! ๐ท The landscapes are so epic that people would not believe what I saw unless I could show them myself. Our guide brought his drone and I thought this was an amazing idea, he got some of the best shots of the week!" ๐
๐ถ The Dolomites are famous for a phenomenon called โenrosadiraโ when the mountain peaks glow pink and orange at sunset and sunrise due to the mineral-rich rock. Itโs a dream for photographers! ๐

๐ค What advice would you offer to future travellers considering this hiking trip? |
"I would highly recommend this trip (us too! ๐คญ) โ I advise you to make the most of being in the area by trying the local cuisine while you are in Trentino. The local wine and olive oil are world famous, and there are many brilliant restaurants and shops in Trento to spend your time enjoying in the evening."
๐ฝ Trentino is known for its crisp white wines like Mรผller-Thurgau and Nosiola, and traditional alpine cuisine - a mix of Italian and Germanic heritage.

๐ If you had to sum up your experience in three words, what would they be? |
"Adventurous, non-stop, breathtaking.๐ฅฐ"
๐ The Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009 for their unique geological structure, vertical walls, and scenic value.
