Touring Tales: Sailing into Powder in Arctic Norway 🇳🇴 |
What’s it like to ski tour straight from the sea? In this edition of Touring Tales, we follow Louana’s trip through Norway’s Lyngen Alps, where deep powder, wild terrain, and sailboat life combined for a one-of-a-kind experience. ⛵🎿
From icy fjord mornings to shifting weather and shared moments on deck, it was a week of challenge, connection, and pure adventure. If you’ve ever dreamt of earning your turns by day and sleeping on the sea by night—read on. 👇

🏔 How did combining sailing with ski touring change the overall experience of exploring the Lyngen Alps? |
"For me combining sailing and skiing was a wonderful experience. I have been skiing since I am kid, and I really wanted to combine it with something I wasn’t used to. The perfect combo!" 😍
🎿 Ski & sail trips in Lyngen are possible thanks to the region’s fjord network, which gives direct boat access to remote touring routes unreachable by car.

⛵ What was it like waking up on a boat and gearing up for a ski tour straight from the sea? |
"Normally on a boat we were in bikini. But it was a real challenge to get up in the morning, get out of the bed in the cold and get dressed for skiing. But it was fun." 🥶
⛵ Arctic sailboats are specially insulated and equipped with heating, but early mornings still demand serious mental grit—especially when transitioning from warm bunks to snow gear at -5°C.
|
🌥 Was there a moment during the trip when the weather or terrain surprised you? How did the group handle it? |
"The weather changed all the time every day. We had to adapt our days everyday, I guess it’s the Norway vibe there haha" 😅
🏔 In northern Norway, it's common to experience sun, snow, and wind in the same hour. Coastal weather systems move fast—flexibility and experienced guides are key to safe ski touring.

😄 What did sharing a boat with other adventurers add to the atmosphere and rhythm of the trip? |
"We made this trip with friends, but some of them didn’t really know each other well yet. And having shared a boat all week brought us closer together, we experienced a unique moment out of time." 👥🥰
