WoodWatch: Why we don’t follow trends

Hi! Jonay here, CEO of WoodWatch.

I’ve been thinking about something lately. In a world where everything moves fast, trends, collections, even entire styles, it’s easy to feel like you always need something new. New colors. New designs. New drops. But that was never really the direction we wanted to take.

From the very beginning, we made a conscious choice to do things differently. Not to follow trends, but to step away from them. Because trends fade. Sometimes faster than you expect. And what’s popular today often feels outdated tomorrow.

What we wanted to create instead were pieces that stay. Watches that don’t rely on what’s “in” right now, but on materials and designs that feel natural, timeless, and personal.

That’s also why we chose wood. It’s not the easiest material to work with. It takes more care, more attention, and no two pieces ever turn out exactly the same. But that’s exactly the point. In a world of mass production, we wanted to create something that feels different. Something that doesn’t come off a line looking identical to thousands of others.

Over the years, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to go more “mainstream.” To follow what’s selling. To move faster. To simplify things. But every time, we come back to the same thought: We’d rather be different than popular. Because in the end, the pieces people keep, the ones they wear for years, the ones they gift, the ones that carry meaning, those are never the ones that followed a trend.

They’re the ones that felt right from the start. And that’s still what we focus on every day.

Appreciate you being part of that.
