In late September, the sun sits low and comes in from the side. It hits your eyes right when you'd rather be outside. And from that same side, once winter arrives, come the rain and the cold.

A roller shade closes off that side, and choosing one takes four steps: the model, the fabric, manual or motorized operation, and the size you need.

Every shade can also be custom-made to your exact size. Let's start with the model, since every other choice depends on it.

Which model

What sets the three models apart is how the fabric is held in place at the bottom. That also decides whether the shade can be motorized.

Easy Roll 2.0 - Arms or floor hooks

Step 2

Which fabric

Braidd5® is micro-perforated, 12 oz/sq yd/ 410 g/m². It blocks 95% of UV rays and lets air through, so heat doesn't build up under the shade during the hottest hours. It's the right fabric if the sun is what bothers you.

Purishade®, 8 oz/sq yd/ 270 g/m², is waterproof and still breathable. Go with it if you want to stay outside even when it rains.

Clear® is an 18 oz/sq yd/ 625 g/m² clear PVC. In winter, it encloses your balcony without blocking the light or the view.

It's not a permanent choice: with EasySwitch® you swap the fabric in a few minutes without touching the frame. Put up the clear fabric in winter, then switch back to shade fabric in spring.

Step 3

Manual or motorized

With manual operation, you raise and lower the shade using the folding crank rod. On Easy Roll 2.0 that's still the most convenient option, since the fabric has to be hooked to the arms or hooks anyway.

On Reef Roll and on Easy Clear with cables, the fabric raises and lowers on its own inside the guides: that's where a motor really makes sense. It's a 12V motor with a lithium battery, good for more than 200 cycles per charge, and it recharges in six hours.

We chose a battery over a hardwired motor for a practical reason: paired with the solar panel, it keeps itself charged. No wiring to run, no electrician to call.

Which size

Measure the width of your space:

if it matches one of our standard sizes, order it as is. If not, we cut the shade to your exact measurements. You take them yourself, following the guide in our configurator.
